You can now go back to the home screen and do something else. All you can do is play a song in pop-up view and continue using the phone. Considering you cannot even do that in YouTube Music, Stream is worth checking out. YouTube terms may not agree to play songs when screen is turned off. But Pi Music Player has a trick. Instead of switching off the phone, it turns on power saver mode which uses a black screen and decreases the brightness to the lowest which makes it looks like having some screen saver or always-on display. That way, you can use pop-up view to use the phone while listening to music and power-saving mode to play a song when the screen is turned off. Download and install the Pi Music Player app from the Play store and open it. Grant the required permissions. Once you are in the app, you can find all songs available in your local storage as Pi Music Player is also normal music player app at its core. But swipe left to Discover tab and you shall find songs that you can play online and it is powered by YouTube Music.
Click on Proceed. Select the Pi Muisc Player app from the list and enable Allow display over other apps option. But when you turn off the screen, it will stop playing the music with a pop-up message to use Power Saving Mode. You can turn the screen back on and tap on the Resume option in the popup. It will switch on power-saving mode with a black screen, low brightness, and swipe option to exit Power Saving Mode. Pi Music Player is a good alternative to bypass the YouTube terms and offers a free solution without messing with the desktop layout in the mobile browser. Once activated, all you need to do is play songs directly on the YouTube Music app and block the proximity sensor with an object. First, download the Black Screen of Life app directly from the Play Store. Now open the app and click on the pink circular button.
The circle turns to green indicating the sensor is enabled. Now open the YouTube Music and play any song. So by using this app, you still have to be on the YouTube Music app for the song to continue playing. I know things sometimes have glitches, and this is just one of them. I don't know why some apps are built into the operating system oh, only the developers know. I love YouTube, I always used it since it was created. Occasionally it has problems. Nothing serious. But, lately this app has been ridiculously filled with ads non stop! That's bs!!! I used to be able to skip these ads, at least every other one. But now I'm forced to watch all these ads! There's no skip button for most of them! It's really getting crazy with ads! Just to watch 4, 5 minute videos there's 10, 2 minute ads that can't be skipped. I use it a lot less now, than I used to. I used to love YouTube. With this latest update crammed down my throat, I no longer enjoy it.

Not only is the new interface ugly, harder to navigate, and was overall unnecessary, but now the app doesn't even succeed at its only function. Please fix this. YouTube Music absolutely sucks. The concept is great, but the user interface is confusing, and especially after the recent update, now I have to constantly switch between a ton of different tabs just to access my uploaded and added libraries. I miss Google Play Music. That wasn't perfect, but it at least was easier to navigate and understand.
Please bring it back. Love youtube music. So let's say I have a saved radio station, it would be really cool to be able empty the radio station and refill it with new songs. Maybe slightly alter the selection of songs based on recent activity.
