Please try again later. Verified Purchase. My uncompressed wave files play perfectly gapless right from the micro SD card. So if you are like me and must have truly gapless - buy more SD cards and load it with wav files. I have not tested Flac files but it's likely that the less lossy the compression is - the more gapless it will play. The sound quality is good and it reads and plays my music folders exactly as I set them up on the micro SD card. I just used a USB 3. The M6 scanned all the folders on the card in no time so finding and playing songs is a cinch. I don't intend to use web based music services or Bluetooth much if at all so I can't grade those features.
I really don't like the interface though. The unit has poor documentation and some menus are hard to get back out of. Some of this may have to do with the touchscreen being so small. I'm hoping the battery life between charges will be better playing it in Line Out mode through speakers. As a disclaimer, I put my research time in before pulling the trigger on the M6. I read the reviews here and watched any video review I could get my hands on. When the device came, I was pretty excited. This thing makes an excellent impression. It's solid feeling, glass on the front and back, and it's small enough to be convenient while still being large enough to keep the touchscreen controls usable. It even comes with a nice little form-fitting case!
It really is a beautiful device! I quickly went about installing a pre-configured micro SD card with my music and then figuring out how to install Spotify and hey, it was great. Streaming, downloading, controlling my M6 from my PC using Spotify Anywhere. If I had any misgivings it was that Spotify seemed a little slow but usable, and startup time from fully powered off is a bit on the slow side. The next morning, however, my music was missing. I rebooted and poked around before realizing that the device no longer saw the micro SD card. Re-seating it fixes the problem, but also requires that you remove that nice form-fitting case to access the card slot. As far as I can tell, this does solve the problem, but the larger issue is that you will find yourself doing this multiple times per day. While sitting here typing this review out, I checked my player at the micro SD card has disappeared again.
Googling the problem reveals that this has been complained about on the official forums but seemingly never fixed. It's a shame because this is a very cool little DAP, it's just not reliably functional. If you'll never need more than the 2GB of onboard storage and want Bluetooth and wifi capabilities, this might be for you, but would be pretty expensive for what you're getting. If you don't mind re-seating the micro SD card multiple times per day then maybe this could be for you, but I can't in good conscience recommend that anyone buy this product. It's positioned as a premium product and doesn't meet those standards. FiiO still makes some really great stuff, this just isn't one of them. I overall like the fiio m6 but it is not without its issues. To install apps you have to manually move the apk to the device while connected to the computer. There are so many better ways to do this that aren't enabled.
I have primarily used it to listen to spotify which does not run fast. There is a few second lag between commands that require the app to load a new screen in the app. This is opposed to the FiiO music app that plays your music that you move over, manually. That app is a lot faster and smoother. Bluetooh and wifi work great, sound is great, the battery drains kinda fast if left on standby, e. Overall I am pleased with this DAP, it has a nice clean sound, it would have been nice if it had a system wide equalizer and a browser to download apps for it, I ended up installing Via Browser, a lightweight browser that is surprisingly fast on this device, I have a pair of 1More Quad Driver's and a pair of JVC Elations that use with this and they both sound very nice with this DAP. YouTube Vanced also works great on this device with almost no lag.
If there was one thing I would recommend is adding the storage menu back on settings, so it's easier to clear the device cache, instead of having to go through the boot menu, also the file manager app that comes with the device barely functions and some files dont even show up, I ended up installing Mixplorer which is what I normally use on my phone. Battery Life is pretty good. This is my second purchase of a Fiios product I happily had the x3 for years and enjoyed its ease of use and sound quality. This M6 is infinitely superior with its color touch screen and very good battery life. There’s is definitely more features for me to learn such as other options of connectivity and apps but I bought it just to play hi res files and it does it well with the ease of Bluetooth.
So I can’t go over the numerous features because all I wanted was ease of access and sound quality and this unit has what I am looking for while being well priced. So I can definitely recommend this unit-I think you will find more functions then you could possibly want all in a well built compact package! I have had other Fiio players in the past but was looking for a player that had bluetooth that I could stream into my music system, eliminating the use of my iPhone for that purpose. Based on past experience with Fiio, I first looked to them to see if they had bluetooth models.
It didn't take long to find out they did and I settled on the M6 because it was on sale and it provided a number of different and current codecs to be played on appropriate receivers. The sound is clear and whole, delivers the full spectrum realistically. I use FLAC only, so that helps a lot. I totally recommend. If you can find it on sale, even better. If you only care about Great sound you will be able to work with this unit but it has problems. Be very careful with the buttons. mine failed and I had to return it I put mine in the plastic case in came in to protect it but this was a big mistake as it stops you from feeling the buttons properly and leads to pressing them too firmly when the unit's very laggy interface has you wondering if you actually successfully pressed a button or not. The buttons on this unit are weak micro-switches. My advice is that you should not put this cover on and that you should be very patient with the buttons and press them very carefully. They will fail otherwise - It Needs skip buttons it uses the volume buttons to skip via a long press action when the screen sleeps which is very annoying as it also trains you to hold buttons down which will damage them in the long run.
